Kluver feels a personal connection with the times and people he represents in the book, finding inspiration for entire chapters from the examination of historical photographs and drawings.

 

A pivotal character in the book is notorious occult philosopher, Aleister Crowley, a legendary figure who acts as a bridge between ancient and enduring civilisations.

           

While looking to invoke visceral fears against a backdrop of conflicting cultures in The Left Hand of Power, Kluver hopes that the plight of his protagonists, while confronting the energies of ancient Egyptian mythology, the black arts, and the complexities of modern living, will lead to a path of self-discovery for readers as they have done for him.

           

“Sometimes you’ve got to take one step backward to go two steps forward,” says Kluver, whose simple motto is to “Write to entertain!”  

 

Kluver, who also has screenwirting aspirations, is a member of the Gold Coast Writer's Association and an associate member of the Australian Writer’s Guild. He is currently working on a serial-killer thriller.
